{"id":279,"date":"2022-07-14T10:05:08","date_gmt":"2022-07-14T08:05:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/otc-com.dk\/?p=279"},"modified":"2022-07-14T10:05:10","modified_gmt":"2022-07-14T08:05:10","slug":"the-dutch-farmers-protest-and-the-war-on-food","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stoptechnocracy.eu\/index.php\/2022\/07\/14\/the-dutch-farmers-protest-and-the-war-on-food\/","title":{"rendered":"The Dutch Farmers\u2019 Protest and the War on Food"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">SOURCE: Kit Knightly at Off-Guardian<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This week, tens of thousands of farmers have gathered from all across the Netherlands to protest government policies which will reduce the number of livestock in the country by up to a third.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a typical example of media weasel-wording, the press reports on this all headline something like&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.euronews.com\/green\/2022\/06\/23\/we-are-not-pollution-producers-dutch-farmers-block-roads-in-protest-against-emissions-targ\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cDutch farmers protest emissions targets\u201d<\/a>, but this is a massive lie by omission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/environment\/2021\/dec\/15\/netherlands-announces-25bn-plan-to-radically-reduce-livestock-numbers\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">government policy being protested<\/a>&nbsp;is a 25 BILLION Euro investment in&nbsp;<em>\u201creducing levels of nitrogen pollution\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;true, but it plans to achieve this by (among other things) \u201c<em>paying some Dutch livestock farmers to relocate or exit the industry\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In real terms, this ultimately means&nbsp;<strong>reducing the number of pigs, chickens and cows by about thirty per cent<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>That\u2019s<\/em>&nbsp;what is being protested here \u2013 a deliberately shrinking of the farming sector, impacting the livelihood of thousands of farmers, and the food supply of literally hundreds of millions of people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">THE BIG PICTURE<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>While the scheme is allegedly about limiting nitrogen and ammonia emissions from urine and manure it\u2019s hard not to see this in the broader context of the ongoing&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/off-guardian.org\/2022\/04\/25\/5-signs-they-are-creating-a-food-crisis\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">created food crisis<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Netherlands produces a massive food surplus and is one of the largest exporters of meat in the world and THE largest in Europe. Reducing its output by a third could have huge implications for the global food supply, especially in Western Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Perhaps more troubling is how this could act as a precedent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This isn\u2019t the first \u201cpay farmers not to farm\u201d scheme launched in the last year \u2013 both the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/government-commits-to-support-farmers-who-wish-to-leave-the-industry#:~:text=Government%20publishes%20response%20to%20the,delinked%20payments%20in%20England%20consultation.&amp;text=Farmers%20who%20wish%20to%20leave%20the%20industry%20will%20be%20supported,sector%20in%20a%20managed%20way.\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">UK<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.governing.com\/now\/the-biden-administration-will-pay-farmers-more-money-not-to-farm\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">US<\/a>&nbsp;have put such schemes in place \u2013 but a government paying to reduce it\u2019s own meat production? That is a first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That it is (allegedly) being done to \u201cprotect the environment\u201d makes it a big warning sign for the future. Denmark, Belgium and Germany are already&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/livestock-netherlands-cows-pigs-chickens-farming-agriculture\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">considering similar policies.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Western world seems to be enthusiastically embracing quasi-suicidal policies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I mean, paying farmers to reduce the amount of food they produce\u2026while (notionally) threatened with war\u2026in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/economics.rabobank.com\/publications\/2022\/june\/dutch-economy-likely-to-face-mild-recession\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">midst of a recession<\/a>\u2026facing&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/business\/2022\/jul\/01\/inflation-in-eurozone-hits-record-86-as-ukraine-war-continues\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">record inflation<\/a>&nbsp;as the cost of living spirals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Does that really make any sense?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s almost as crazy as&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/02\/24\/biden-administration-pausing-new-oil-and-gas-leases-amid-legal-battle-.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">refusing new oil and gas leases<\/a>&nbsp;while the cost of petrol is going up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Indeed, in a world beset by a shortage of fertiliser due to sanctions against Russia and Belarus, it would seem almost mad to&nbsp;<em>complain<\/em>&nbsp;about a manure surplus, let alone try to&nbsp;<em>reduce<\/em>&nbsp;it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019re well past the point where any of this could be considered accidental, aren\u2019t we?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Put it this way \u2013 if the collective governments of the Western world&nbsp;<em>were<\/em>&nbsp;trying to impoverish and starve their own citizens, what exactly would they be doing differently?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/off-guardian.org\/2022\/07\/02\/the-dutch-farmers-protest-and-the-war-on-food\/\">Read full article&#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SOURCE: Kit Knightly at Off-Guardian This week, tens of thousands of farmers have gathered from all across the Netherlands to protest government policies which will reduce the number of livestock in the country by up to a third.
