{"id":359,"date":"2023-05-30T10:15:02","date_gmt":"2023-05-30T08:15:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/otc-com.dk\/?p=359"},"modified":"2023-05-30T10:15:04","modified_gmt":"2023-05-30T08:15:04","slug":"european-commission-has-initiated-four-pan-european-projects-for-digital-ids","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stoptechnocracy.eu\/index.php\/2023\/05\/30\/european-commission-has-initiated-four-pan-european-projects-for-digital-ids\/","title":{"rendered":"European Commission has initiated four pan-European projects for Digital IDs"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">SOURCE: The Expos\u00e9<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The European Commission has set aside \u20ac46 million (about \u00a340 million) for four pan-European pilot projects of the European Digital Identity (\u201cEUDI\u201d) wallet.\u00a0 The projects represent a combined investment of over \u20ac90 million in the EU digital identity plans, 50% co-financed by the Commission.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The EUDI is a smartphone app on which citizens of all 27 member states of the EU can store and share a digital ID.&nbsp;&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/commission.europa.eu\/strategy-and-policy\/priorities-2019-2024\/europe-fit-digital-age\/european-digital-identity_en\">Potential uses of EUDI include<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>public services such as requesting birth certificates, medical certificates, reporting a change of address<\/li><li>opening a bank account, applying for a bank loan<\/li><li>filing tax returns<\/li><li>applying for a university, at home or in another Member State<\/li><li>storing a medical prescription that can be used anywhere in Europe<\/li><li>proving your age<\/li><li>renting a car using a digital driving license<\/li><li>checking in to a hotel<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The four EUDI projects will involve 250 public and private organisations in almost all member states, as well as Iceland, Norway, and Ukraine, and will run for a minimum of two years. The Four Projects are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.digital-identity-wallet.eu\/\">Pilots for European Digital Identity Wallet Consortium<\/a>&nbsp;(\u201cPOTENTIAL\u201d) \u2013 co-ordinated by Germany and France with the involvement of 17 Member States and Ukraine.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/eudiwalletconsortium.org\/\">EU Digital Identity Wallet Consortium<\/a>&nbsp;(\u201cEWC\u201d) \u2013 co-ordinated by Sweden with the involvement of 18 Member States and Ukraine.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nobidconsortium.com\/\">Nordic-Baltic eID Wallet Consortium<\/a>&nbsp;(\u201cNOBID\u201d) \u2013 co-ordinated by Norway with the involvement of 8 Member States and EEA countries.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dc4eu.eu\/\">Digital Credentials for Europe Consortium<\/a>&nbsp;(\u201cDC4EU\u201d) \u2013 co-ordinated by Spain with the involvement of 23 Member States and Ukraine.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>In its&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/digital-strategy.ec.europa.eu\/en\/news\/eu-digital-identity-4-projects-launched-test-eudi-wallet\">announcement last Tuesday,<\/a>&nbsp;the Commission stated the projects will help reach the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/digital-strategy.ec.europa.eu\/en\/policies\/europes-digital-decade\">Digital Decade Policy Programme<\/a>&nbsp;target for everybody living in the EU to have access to an electronic identity (\u201ceID\u201d) by 2030.&nbsp; The target is that Member States will provide every EU citizen with access to a EUDI wallet on a mobile phone or another digital device.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The pilot projects will also help EU member states prepare for the coming into force of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/commission\/presscorner\/detail\/en\/ip_21_2663\">European Digital Identity Regulation<\/a>.&nbsp; The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.europarl.europa.eu\/thinktank\/en\/document\/EPRS_BRI(2021)698772\">EU parliament has already approved the negotiating position<\/a>&nbsp;of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (\u201cITRE\u201d) which has been tasked with the proposed law.&nbsp; ITRE began negotiations with other institutions in March 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sources for this article include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/reclaimthenet.org\/the-eu-wants-all-citizens-to-have-a-digital-id-by-2030\">The EU Wants All Citizens to Have A Digital ID By 2030<\/a>, Reclaim the Net<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biometricupdate.com\/202305\/e46m-earmarked-for-four-eu-digital-identity-wallet-pilots\">\u20ac46M earmarked for four EU digital identity wallet pilots<\/a>, Biometric Update<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/expose-news.com\/2023\/05\/29\/european-commission-has-initiated-digital-ids\/\">Read full article&#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SOURCE: The Expos\u00e9 The European Commission has set aside \u20ac46 million (about \u00a340 million) for four pan-European pilot projects of the European Digital Identity (\u201cEUDI\u201d) wallet.\u00a0 The projects represent a combined investment of over \u20ac90 million in the EU digital identity plans, 50% co-financed by the Commission.
